ONE CHURCH, ONE MISSION

Throughout the New Testament, believers clearly identified themselves with a local church and were challenged to become committed members. They helped others grow as followers of Jesus and supported one another in their mission.

Essentially, membership of this church is an identification with, and ownership of, this particular expression of God’s family. By being a member here, we are stating that this group of believers is the people with whom we plan to worship, serve, & proclaim Jesus, and also share life together. It is a commitment to partnering with one another in the mission God has for us, not sitting back and letting others do the work or make the decisions. 

Membership is a recognition that while this is God’s church, it is also ‘our’ church.  We have an important role to play in how this church honours God and witnesses to his love and grace within this community. We are to all share equally in this work.

Membership at Green Point Baptist Church is fundamentally about a commitment to three things:

1)     Supporting the Ministry of the Church
- by living a Christ-centred life based on God’s Word; by devoted prayer; by service using the gifts and abilities God has given; by responsible financial giving as God directs. 

2)     Sharing the Responsibility of the Church
- by being committed to the Mission and Vision of GPBC, and the core values of our faith community; by regularly participating in the life, worship, ministry and decision-making of the church; by actively developing a missional heart for our local and global communities.

3)     Protecting the Unity of the Church
- by acting with grace and truth towards others, actively building up the body of Christ in love; by supporting the leadership as they follow the direction of the Holy Spirit; by refusing to engage in destructive attitudes and actions

The membership is the governing body of the church under the headship of Christ. Membership is open to anyone who has been baptized as a demonstration of faith in Jesus and is in agreement with our Church Constitution.
